Little Flower House Concert #38

At the March house concert, the full 5-piece Space Captain Rik band came from Bloomington, Indiana to play for us. The band played two sets with a break between and they had a chill, spacy vibe. The first tune started out with a pre-recorded soundtrack of birds chirping. This creative start to the house concert transformed into more organic sounds. The improv style of the performance was fun to witness and each member of the band had something special to add. It was interesting to see how they would mesh the collaborated sounds into a unique composition.

Guests were amazed at how the sounds and vibe Space Captain Rick put out. The guitar playing was technically proficient and the jazzy improvised sounds morphed together to create a one-of-a-kind musical experience. The disco ball was spinning for the whole concert added to the spacey feel!

Braving the Cold for Some Good Music and Good Times

You never know what Spring (or near Spring) weather will bring in Indiana. On this particular mid-March Saturday, it snowed! Not a lot of snow, but enough to dust the ground. Guests who come to the house concerts enjoy being greeted with colorful bubbles that fill the air from the bubble machine placed outside the front door to the house. In this cold weather, however, the bubbles were frozen in the air! Not the same effect as usual but it still kept things fun and welcoming. The cold weather did not keep Little Flower House Concert music lovers away. And, regardless of the weather, the house was as colorful and cozy as always!

Courtney Brooks Photography of the House Concert

The very talented photographer, Courtney Brooks of Courtney Brooks Photography, came to the Space Captain Rik house concert. It is always such a treat to see all of his great photos after the event. Courtney has a photographer’s eye and a love for music. His perspective and ideas for photos are so creative! The house concert series and the band are fortunate to have such creative talent supporting the show. After the concert, Courtney even came up with some very artistic interpretations of some photos. He added color and movement and was really able to capture the vibe of the band. How cool!

Monster Munchies!

The wonderful local food vendor and small business owner, Tracy Johnson had lots of delicious food choices for house concert guests. She plans to bring her small business Monster Munchies back to future house concerts and is pleased to offer a variety of food options to guests for just $5.

Like always, there were a variety of hotdogs and brats with all the toppings. She also made a vegetable soup which was perfect for the cold weather day. There was even a tasty veggie rice bake. Plus there were a variety of snack options including the very popular cheesecake which sold out! She very generously donated half of her tips back to the house concert series.

Thank you to those who make monthly house concerts possible!

Huge thank you to Tracy for doing such a wonderful job with the food. And tank you also to our drink partner, Upland. They donated drinks and we’re so glad to have their support for these community events.

A Colorful Creation By Artist Steve Tanaka

Just look at this beautiful drawing! It’s so colorful and perfectly displays an interpreted perspective of the band that night. Steve Tanaka is a friend and neighbor who has become a regular house concert guest. It is always exciting to see him in attendance. Not only does he have a special place in his life for good music, but he is also a very talented visual artist. When Steve is in the house, I know that a neat drawing is going to be produced out of the night. This is such a special way to have the experience documented. I think the bands and other attendees really enjoy seeing his work too. It is just amazing what he is able to come up with!

Every house concert is unique!

Building community and connecting through the arts is what the Little Flower House Concert Series is all about. I work hard to keep this going and am pleased to offer a safe space for everyone to come to listen together. It is so important to support others, listen, be humble, share art, and create opportunities. It takes all of us to spread real kindness and an evening spent together listening to music and supporting independent projects is the perfect way to participate. I hope you agree that these little monthly events make life just a little bit better.

Please always feel welcome to come to the Little Flower House Concerts. Bring your friends and family. See you next month!
