Oral History Project Update

The first round of interviews are underway!

We’re excited to share that our 2025 Oral History Project is off to a fantastic start! Our goal to collect at least 50 stories from Indiana’s music notables. This project is well underway, with seven interviews already completed.

As our team continues to refine our process, we’re eager to make these stories available for you to listen to later this year. Additionally, we’ve partnered with Image Resources to produce videos to accompany these stories. We can’t wait to share these Amazing Indiana Music Stories with you!

Oral History Project

Who would you like to see featured?

There are so many individuals who have shaped Indiana’s music scene, and our goal is to capture as many of these stories as possible. While we may not be able to interview everyone right away, we’d love to hear your suggestions! Feel free to share your thoughts by interacting with our recent post.

Celebrating Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, our team hosted a special Indy soul and jazz display, along with an IMHP information table, at the Harrison Center’s First Friday Open House. The exhibit featured a curated selection of photos, posters, and recordings highlighting the incredible legacy of Indiana’s music legends. It was a great way to celebrate and share the rich musical history of our community.

Watch for our next display table showcasing historic women in Indiana music to celebrate Women’s History Month. Get your tickets to the concert featuring renowned Indianapolis electric violinist and vocalist, Cathy Morris on Wednesday, February 19th. Thank you to the Jazz Kitchen for inviting us to exhibit. If you attend, be sure to stop by the IMHP table!

Thank you to Cathy Morris, Arts With A Purpose, and The Jazz Kitchen for inviting us to set up an exhibit.

Featured Memorabilia Donation

Larry Goshen Posters 1959

Thank you to Larry Goshen for donating some wonderful posters and photos from his collection of Indiana music memorabilia! The larger poster is from 1959 when it was only 75 cents to attend! It features Bouncin’ Bill Baker, an Indiana broadcast pioneer, The Crowns, one of the bands Larry played drums with, and Indianapolis singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Ronnie Haig. Among the items Larry donated is a rare Record Hop poster. Stop by the gallery to see these in person.

Give Your Indiana Music Memorabilia a New Life!

Do you have music memorabilia from Indiana’s past collecting dust in your basement or garage? Instead of letting it sit unused, consider donating it to the IMHP gallery, where it will be preserved and showcased for future generations. We’re always accepting donations to help educate, commemorate, and celebrate the music history of our community and the incredible people who shaped it. Your items will help keep Indiana’s musical legacy alive!
