Celebrating our 10th Anniversary!

January 2025

This year is already off to a great start for the Indiana Music History Project and we have many exciting initiatives to focus on! We invite you to visit our accessible gallery where you can view exhibits covering most genres of music across the state, from the 1920’s through current times.

Central Library Exhibits

Free and open to the public!

The Indiana Avenue jazz and Indy soul exhibits are still on display at the Center for Black Literature & Culture on the 2nd floor. Those cases will be changed out in late January for exhibits on The Jackson 5/Jacksons and Indiana Hip Hop. The latter exhibits will be on display through April 2025. In April we will launch exhibits in the central library on early rock/rockabilly and country/bluegrass.

Oral History Project Launch

Training & Planning

We are in the early stages of collecting oral histories from Indiana music icons across the state. Indiana Historical Society’s Shannon Powell and Marianne Sheline provided our team with a day of guidance to review and practice oral history interviews at our HQ location in Broad Ripple.

Tucker Fenwick from Image Resources, who will be heading up video production, was on hand to provide instruction on video recording and lighting.

During 2025, we are interviewing 50 or more individuals who have been important to Indiana music, and we plan to continue to do this each year. Suggestions are welcome! Please keep in mind, however, there are thousands of deserving people and we have limited capacity for now. There’s so much more to come on this exciting project!
